May Nonprofit of the Month: The Monroe Humane Society
The BetterUnite Nonprofit of the Month honor for May goes to the Monroe Humane Society. This no-kill shelter in Michigan aims to foster an environment of respect, responsibility, and compassion for companion animals through education, pet population control and leadership.
Monroe Humane Society has just purchased a site for a new shelter, community space, memorial garden, pet clinic and Monroe's first Dog Park. In 2013, Monroe Humane Society purchased land on N. Monroe Street in Frenchtown, Michigan. Here they will build a New Shelter, Community Room, Clinic, Memorial Garden, and Monroe's first outdoor Dog Park with Walking Trails. This move will provide a much better facility for the animals, and it would also include a much larger facility, allowing Monroe Humane Society to help many additional animals.
This organization is also very involved in local events and developing ways to increase donations to support their mission. This includes its 4th Annual Golf Tournament, scheduled for June 18, 2022, at the Great Oak Golf Club in Temperance, MI. Fees include lunch AND steak dinner, plus 18 holes of golf! Shotgun starts at 8am.
Monroe Humane Society's next planned event is the 3rd annual Motorcycle Charity Ride, scheduled for September 10 in Monroe. More information regarding the ride will be forthcoming after the Golf Tournament.
